VZLA2017

Vzla2017 is an interactive representation of the protests that happened in Venezuela, in April 2017. Made for #VzlaCrisisJam in May 2017. You can play it in itch.io: https://chiguire.itch.io/vzla2017.

For this jam I had the inspiration to make a game based on the protests that happened in April 2017. I did something similar with Feria, a playable prototype (play it here, html5), and since then I did not have any inspiration left. This is one of the consequences of not living in Venezuela for a few years: I am inspired by the places I live in, and my currently place of living is very different to Venezuela. It has its own share of problems and concerns, of course, but they’re not as familiar to me as the ones in Venezuela.

With vzla2017 I intended to work with the subject of protests, and the media silence that surrounds them (by self-censorship or fear).

The “news segments” allowed me to make some portraits where some selected characters appear. After working with several portraits, I found out I only did politicians and public officers.
